O MAIOR É O MENOR: QUEM SÃO OS PEQUENINOS E QUAIS OS ENSINOS DE JESUS SOBRE ELES EM MATEUS 18.1-14

Resumo

A perícope de Mateus 18.1-14 tem sido interpretada de diferentes formas por muitos teólogos e estudantes da Bíblia. Dentre estes, muitos entendem que Jesus, ao falar acerca dos pequeninos no texto em questão, está se referindo exclusivamente às crianças. No entanto, este entendimento pode apresentar algumas dificuldades e problemas teológicos, como por exemplo o entendimento da existência de anjos guardiões das crianças, visto que Jesus fala sobre "anjos dos pequeninos". Assim, Jesus estaria se referindo às crianças quando fala sobre os pequeninos ou não necessariamente? E qual seria o ensino principal de Jesus ao tratar acerca das crianças e dos pequeninos? Tendo por objetivo responder a estas questões, neste artigo é apresentado um estudo bibliográfico e hermenêutico da perícope apontando algumas questões contextuais concernentes à perícope com análise de termos-chave na língua grega, bem como quem são os pequeninos citados por Jesus, o que se espera deles e qual deve ser a atitude das outras pessoas em relação a eles. Para isso, o artigo tem como aporte teórico comentários bíblicos do Evangelho de Mateus e obras sobre a língua grega. Portanto, a perícope de Mateus 18.1-14 trata principalmente acerca dos pequeninos de Jesus. Estes não necessariamente são crianças, mas sim todos aqueles que são humildes como ela, se humilham diante de Deus reconhecendo a sua condição de pecador, miserável e destituído de qualquer mérito para a salvação. Desta forma, estes pequeninos devem ser cuidados pelos demais, a saber, a Igreja de Jesus. Eles não devem ser escandalizados, isto é, tropeçarem por causa de uma má conduta de outros e, caso tenham se afastado, não devem ser desprezados de forma alguma. Pelo contrário, devem ser valorizados assim como são pelo próprio Senhor.

The biggest is the smallest: who are the little ones and what Jesus teaches about them in Matthew 18.1-14

Abstract: The pericope of Matthew 18.1-14 has been interpreted in different ways by many theologians and students of the Bible. Among these, many understand that Jesus, when speaking about the little ones in the text in question, is referring exclusively to children. However, this understanding may present some difficulties and theological problems, such as the understanding of the existence of guardian angels for children, since Jesus talks about "angels of the little ones". So, would Jesus be referring to children when he talks about little ones or not necessarily? And what would be the main teaching of Jesus when dealing with children and little ones? With the aim of answering these questions, this article presents a bibliographical and hermeneutic study of the pericope, pointing out some contextual questions concerning the pericope with analysis of key terms in the Greek language, as well as who are the little ones mentioned by Jesus, what is expected of them and what should be the attitude of other people towards them. For this, the article has as theoretical support biblical commentaries of the Gospel of Matthew and works on the Greek language. Therefore, the pericope of Matthew 18.1-14 deals mainly with the little ones of Jesus. These are not necessarily children, but all those who are humble like her, humble themselves before God, recognizing their condition as sinners, miserable and devoid of any merit for salvation. In this way, these little ones must be cared for by others, namely, the Church of Jesus. They are not to be scandalized, that is, stumbled because of the misconduct of others, and if they have strayed, they are not to be despised in any way. On the contrary, they should be valued just as they are by the Lord himself.
