A EXPRESSÃO “EM CRISTO” NAS CARTAS PAULINAS

A expressão “em Cristo” é muito utilizada pelo apóstolo Paulo em suas cartas e surge numa variedade de contextos. Uma expressão similar é “em Adão”, a qual Paulo utiliza para comparar e contrastar não somente as obras de Cristo e Adão, mas também as consequências de suas obras na raça humana. Paulo foi um grande pensador e é considerado por muitos eruditos como o maior teólogo do cristianismo. A tradição cristã atribui a ele a autoria de treze cartas do Novo Testamento: Romanos, 1 e 2 Coríntios, Gálatas, Efésios, Filipenses, Colossenses, 1 e 2 Tessalonicenses, 1 e 2 Timóteo, Tito e Filemom. Muitos pesquisadores, no entanto, levantam dúvidas quanto à autoria paulina de algumas dessas cartas. Nesta série de três artigos, as treze cartas acima listadas são consideradas de autoria do apóstolo. Paulo, em suas cartas, emprega a expressão “em Cristo” em diversos contextos e situações. Ela abrange mais de um significado, dependendo de cada contexto, porém cada significado pode ser conectado com os demais, formando um conjunto de ideias acerca da identidade do indivíduo em Cristo. O conceito paulino sobre a pessoa de Jesus Cristo e sua obra de salvação, incluindo justificação e santificação, repercute em seu entendimento sobre o ser humano e a sua nova identidade em Cristo. Ele estabelece parâmetros pelos quais se pode obter maior compreensão do que significa ser humano em Cristo segundo Paulo.

The expression “in Christ” in the Pauline Letters
ABSTRACT
The expression “in Christ” is much used by the apostle Paul in his letters and arises in a variety of contexts. A similar expression is “in Adam,” which Paul uses to compare and contrast not only the works of Christ and Adam, but also the consequences of his works in the human race. Paul was a great thinker and is considered by many scholars as the greatest theologian of Christianity. The Christian tradition attributes to him the authorship of thirteen New Testament letters: Romans, 1 Corinthians, Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, 1 and 2 Thessalonians, 1 and 2 Timothy, Titus and Philemon. Many researchers, however, raise doubts about the Pauline authorship of some of these letters. In this series of three articles, the thirteen letters listed above are considered by the apostle. Paul, in his letters, uses the expression “in Christ” in various contexts and situations. It encompasses more than one meaning, depending on each context, but each meaning can be connected with the others, forming a set of ideas about the identity of the individual in Christ. The Pauline concept of the person of Jesus Christ and his work of salvation, including justification and sanctification, resonates in his understanding of the human being and his new identity in Christ. It sets out parameters by which to gain a greater understanding of what it means to be human in Christ according to Paul.
