The “Churchless” and Ecclesiology: Unity, Fellowship, and the Edification of the Body of Christ in Ephesians 4.1-16

Abstract: This article examines the importance of Christian fellowship and the purpose of spiritual gifts in the edification of the Body of Christ, based on Ephesians 4:1–16. Through a theological analysis, it discusses the unity of the Church as an inner spiritual reality, distinguishing it from mere external uniformity. It also addresses the phenomenon of the “churchless,” referring to individuals who identify as evangelicals but choose to practice their faith in isolation, without being connected to a local church community. The article examines the reasons behind this fragmentation and its implications for the contemporary Church. From a Reformed theological perspective, it emphasizes the interdependence of believers and the need for a vibrant and active community of faith. The analysis highlights that Christian fellowship involves more than simply gathering with other church members; it also requires the active participation of each believer in service and in the edification of the Body of Christ. In this regard, the discussion of the churchless underscores the importance of a faith community that encourages the exercise of spiritual gifts, mutual care, and commitment to the life of the Church.

Keywords: Christian fellowship. Church Unity. Spiritual gifts. Churchless. Purpose.
